Hamas Likely to Reject Trump's Gaza Peace Plan

A senior Hamas representative told the BBC that the group will likely reject the peace plan for Gaza proposed by US President Donald Trump. According to the official, the plan "serves Israel's interests" and "ignores the interests of the Palestinian people."
This statement comes amid reports from Axios that mediating countries—Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey—are pressuring Hamas to accept the agreement. However, several key provisions are unacceptable to the group.
First, Hamas is unlikely to agree to the demand for disarmament and surrendering of weapons, which is one of the main conditions of Trump's plan. Additionally, the group opposes the deployment of "International Stabilization Forces" (ISF) in the Gaza Strip, viewing it as a new form of occupation.
Another major obstacle is that the plan requires all hostages to be handed over at once, which would deprive Hamas of its only bargaining chip. The group is not confident that Israel will not resume military operations after receiving the hostages, especially after the recent assassination attempt on Hamas leadership in Doha.
Anticipating a possible rejection, Trump had previously stated: "If Hamas rejects the deal, Israel will do what it has to do."
While Hamas leadership is discussing its response, the mood among ordinary Gazans is not unequivocal. Many, tired of the war, are ready to accept any plan that will bring peace. "The American plan has bad provisions, but I am in favor of it because it will stop the war. Even if the devil himself brought a plan to end this hell we are living in, I would support it," one resident told the BBC.
According to Palestinian journalist Fathi Sabbah, a rejection "will give Netanyahu the green light to continue the war with American and Western support, which the people of Gaza can no longer endure."
